Janelle Issis is a dynamic Palestinian-American artist, educator, and choreographer celebrated for her vibrant energy, captivating stage presence, and expressive artistry. A finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, Janelle made history as the only bellydancer to grace the FOX stage.
Rooted in Classical Egyptian bellydance and holding a BA in Dance Performance from the University of Alabama, Janelle has built a career spanning stage, television, dance education, and wellness.
Janelle’s teaching credits include The Ailey Extension at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Broadway Dance Center, and Showstopper, where she has spent the past 13 years inspiring young dancers across the country. Her television and media credits include Good Morning America, The Wendy Williams Show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, HEALTH, and Dance Spirit Magazine, among others.
She is the founder of JBelly School of RAQ: Bellydance, based in New York City and reaching dancers worldwide through online training, workshops, performances, and her signature BellydanceBURN™ classes.
At the heart of Janelle’s teaching is a passion for helping dancers feel confident, expressive, and captivating in their own skin while honoring the cultural roots of bellydance. Her joyful, body-positive approach encourages students to embrace their individuality, discover their own power through movement, and connect from heart to hips.
Recently returning to her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, Janelle continues to grow her New York school and worldwide dance community while sharing her love of bellydance with dancers of all ages and backgrounds.
